Tehuantepec Mutual Planters
In 1899 El ImparcialEl Imparcial reported on the formation of a company in Chicago with the object of investing in agriculture in the Tehuantepec isthmus. The Tehuantepec Mutual Planters Company planted bananas, 810 hectares of sugarcane, and 570 hectares of orange trees, the largest orange grove in the country. By 1904, the same company was sending railroad cars loaded with tomatoes directly to the United States.
Its president and general manager was the Chicagoan, Wallace Edward Butler.
