Two hundred pesos coins

The circulating $200 coins were made in three basic types

Type 1 - Independence
Type 2 - Revolution
Type 3 - Football World Cup

On 29 December 1984 President Miguel de la Madrid authorised the issue of a series of coins to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Independence and the 75th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, including two $200 coins. (The design of the Mexican Revolution coin was modified by a further decree of 19 December 1985, no doubt when they realised that the first decree called for the legend "DE LA REVOLUCION MEXICANA" to be in miniscule rather than capital letters).

To celebrate the holding of the FIFA World Cup competition in Mexico in 1986 Mexico issued both circulating and non-circulating legal tender coins. On 19 December 1985 Miguel de la Madrid issued a decree authorising this $200 coin (as well as silver and gold coins).
