Decimal issues of the Mexico City mint (copper 1 centavo)
The regular-issue 1-centavo coins were first struck in 1863 and are referred to as the Seated Liberty types. Mexico City produced two types of Seated Liberty centavo: one with a flat-top 3 and one with a round-top 3. The engraver’s name, Paredes, appears on both.

When minting of the Republic decimal coinage was resumed in 1869, the mint adopted a new design – the Standing Eagle style.

In 1898, the value of copper in the large Standing Eagle centavo exceeded its face value , and another new, smaller design was proposed. As soon as the design was accepted on 21 December 1899, the new 1-centavo issues were struck, but for only three days.
